After falling to the Mississauga SW Twins 22-13 on Monday, the Hamilton Cardinals bounced back against the Burlington Bulls at Ireland Park.
The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth, but eventually the Cardinals prevailed with a 6-3 victory. Hamilton took an early lead in the first inning. Quinten L singled on a 3-2 count in the first inning, scoring Kayden C. Carter D pitched a solid 4 innings and Jack S came into the game with excellent work on the mound to keep the game close. The Bulls took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th.
Hamilton had 15 hits in the game. Quinten L, Matthew H, and Ryan W each collected multiple hits for the Cards. Mark L, Alex M, Ethan G, Matthew, Carter D, and Quinten each drove in one run to power the Cardinals offence. Defensively, Will R led the way as Hamilton didn't commit a single error in the field while tearing up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases & Quinten L led the way with two.
Hamilton took the lead for good in an exciting seventh inning. Ryan W got things going with a single to centre field and Mark L brought him home with a monster triple. The offense continued putting on the pressure with a triple by Carter D and singles by Jack S, Matthew H and Ethan G. Hamilton had the lead heading into the bottom of the 7th with a score of 6-3. Matthew H took the mound and shut the Bulls down with 3 straight outs.
The Cards are set to face the Bulls again on Monday night in a rematch at Ireland Park.
