2018 Tier II Teams and Tryouts
Submitted By John Hashimoto on Thursday, August 31, 2017

During the 2017 season, the Hamilton Cardinals operated three Tier II teams.   There is a specific association process that occurs when determining the number of Tier II teams for the following season.

After Labour Day weekend, all Tier II teams will be dissolved.   All players, regardless whether they played on a Tier I or Tier II team, or any HDBA-affiliated team, must attend tryouts for the Tier I team.  It is the mandate of the Hamilton Cardinals to complete each Tier I roster first with the best players available in each age group.

HCBA-appointed representatives will attend each age division's tryouts and ascertain whether that particular age division has enough "rep-level" players to operate a second Tier II team.  If numbers and skill-level warrant a possible second team, the Coach & Player Development Committee will implement our Tier II Team Protocol which involves determining if the particular age group fits our Tier II Team criteria:

-there are enough "rep-level" players to operate a second Tier II team
-there is an adult willing to take on the responsibilities of an HCBA/OBA rep head coach
-the second team will not have a negative impact on the association (ex. operating a second team when there is not enough diamond time based on our City permits)

It is imperative that *eligible players register online and attend the tryouts as this will expedite our Tier II process (*non-eligible players include those who are currently non-Cardinals players and who reside outside our Hamilton and District Baseball Association boundaries- those players will need a valid release from their own association to participate).
